I used to have other pairs of Stan Smiths, but wound up selling them. When I saw these Adidas Stan Smith Ys (as in Yohji Yamamoto’s Y’s), I had to cop.
Right off the bat, these are a bit different than the ordinary pair of Stans. The Y’s logo on the tongue and insole set these off, but the obvious attention grabbers are the stitched 3 stripes logos on the side with stitching that hangs off the shoe.
I’ve seen others cut the strands, but these days I’m a firm believer in not marring my kicks, so I left them. The threads dirty pretty much immediately, so be prepared to give them a quick scrub after wearing to keep them clean.
How Are The Materials?
The materials on these are definitely premium. All the leather from the toebox to the insoles and ankle liner is very high quality. The canvas on the side is very thick and durable and the suede on the grey parts is very soft. These exude superior craftsmanship, and I’m very glad to have secured a pair based on materials alone.
How Do They Fit?
The Adidas Stan Smith Ys fit slightly big and are decently comfortable. I kind of wish I’d have sized down. In any case, these definitely have a luxurious feel on foot thanks to the materials. If you can avoid tripping or catching the threads on anything, then it will add to the interesting look of the shoe for you. If you can’t handle the threads, cut them off! Either way, there is nothing negative I can say regarding the look and quality of these.
